Kenzie

Is anyone else a fan of glo, the online magazine that MSN launched on April 10 of 2010? Basically, It focuses on style, life, and, beauty, and relationships. It's one of those sites that you can get lost in and loose total lack of time, so don't say I didn't warn you.

Check it out here; I promise you'll love it.

Kenzie

SUCH a fun birthday for dad...

Yesterday was his actual birthday, but we celebrated today to best accommodate schedules etc.. Church this morning before heading to brunch at hotel zaza...(seriously every time I walk in that place i feel like i jumped into la... can we say chic??). Basically the whole famly spent the afternoon teaching dad how to use his new ipad he got from my grandfather, and then we kicked back for swimming and a fun cookout dinner.

Here are a few pics I snapped through the day...

Don't these chandeliers inspire you??

Day 55: Dream Home

Catherine

I did a bit of research today because I've been thinking. It's much more important to me to live in a house that I love than to have extra rooms. In fact, I believe that a space affects relationships. Often times vast houses cause the families who live in them to become disconnected and distant. I would want to live in a place where I would almost be forced to be with the people I love. Here's my favorite pictures that I found in Veranda and Architectural Digest.

I've always loved cool colors, but I especially like blue, purple, and green mixed with whites and creams

I love this porch. The huge sliding windows and doors are beautiful and open.

These beams make the room. What an elegant divide and a cozy way to have tall ceilings.

Colorful gazebo combined with a fireplace: cozy cozy cozy.

This window seat looks comfortable and cohesive. It works in relation to the room too.

day 52: style quiz

Kenzie

Today I took this quiz from Elle magazine that gives your fashion personality. The coolest thing is that it gives ideas of what to buy to match your style. I'm not sure it really matched me correctly with "thrill seeker," but still well worth answering the ten questions about myself.

Day 51: A Very Happy Birthday

Catherine

So. Pop turned 80! He's a wonderful, extremely unique man with more passion than the rest of the world combined. I got the job of being the party photographer. Don't you just love family with all their quirks? Happy Birthday Pop!

day 48: happy weekend from calvin & hobbes

Kenzie

I have always loved Calvin and Hobbes.

Something about those two just says "summer weekend" to me.

Happy Weekend.

Day 47: simply wonderful

Kenzie

Tonight Catherine and I watched the movie It's Complicated. I absolutely adore the house that Meryl Streep lives in. The feel is so "mediterranean-californian," but I think my favorite thing about it is the way it defines hospitality. I love how each room just morphs into the next and the warm colors that just make you want to curl up on the sofa. The house is so inviting, and I absolutely love it.

Here are a few pics of the house in the movie:

day 46: Around the world in one plane ticket

Kenzie

Today my friend Meredith blogged about wanting to just pick a spot on a map and be magically placed there.

That reminded me of the BEST idea I heard about recently: the around the world plane ticket!

Basically, the idea is that you start in one location, fly all the way around the world, and end up right up where you started. You get to stop in as many as six continents, but if you want to save money you can make less stops. How wonderful would it be to literally see the world's cultures morph into one another? What an experience!

There are several agencies that offer the ticket, but I really like Oneworld Explorer.

So, because I can't afford it myself, SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!

Day 45: My Ways to Save

Catherine

I've been shopping for college lately and I have a list of my favorite ways to save.

1. Banana Republic Outlet: There's one in Allen or in Round Rock for all my fellow Longhorns :) I bought linen pants and a black skirt for next to no money. I was very impressed by their variety and prices.
2. Nordstrom Rack: Great locations! In Dallas at Park and Central and in Plano. I didn't like much besides to jeans but they have great prices on designer jeans.
3. Off 5th: Right next to Nordstrom Rack in Dallas and in Grapevine. Once again I love the jeans and go for them but I always see more. Be prepared and set a limit to your spending
4. Neiman's Last Call Sale: At any Neiman Marcus store in August they ship in other store's sale items and clear the racks by majorly marking everything down. I've gotten most of  my dresses at the downtown store during last call because it's not near as hectic as Northpark.
5. Heritage 1981 at Forever 21. I typically have a hard time finding clothes at Forever 21 because of the cheaper materials and over the top styles, but I am loving the Heritage 1981 line. Take a look

day 44: cars and me??

Kenzie

Ask anyone- I've never really been a "car person." I've never been one to care about my car's engine, what my interior features were, or what the car driving next to me looked like. However, this summer I have found myself working at car dealership that specializes in customer satisfaction. I was drawn to the company for its reputation of service, but I obviously have been surrounded by cars from day one of the internship.

What has gotten into me? I suddenly am noticing the cars around me on the tollroad; I am using words like turbo and cylinder; I even learned to change oil!

Granted, there's a lot out there to learn, and I've barely scratched the surface. While I may have to make notecards to learn different car models, and I may have stalled out a standard in front of a customer last week, my point is that I am enjoying all this auto-knowledge I am gaining. The more I learn, the more I want to know.

And so, with no disrespect to my own Tory the Toyota, I want to tell you my current list of favorite cars. While they are totally unattainable, these are cars I think are beautiful. If you know me well, then you realize how comical it is that I'm making a car list, but nonetheless here it is:

2010 Cadillac srx

2010 Toyota 4runner

Voltswagon Touareg

Lexus sc10 Convertible

Day 43: William Eggleston

Catherine

I was online viewing Tori Burch's new Look Book and I saw that she mentions William Eggleston as an inspiration to her work. I've studied his work in Photography and absolutely love him and her designs are my favorite. Beautiful combination.

Day 42: A Rhyme of Reason

Kenzie

The following is my absolute all time favorite poem. I loved it when I memorized it in the 4th grade, I loved it when I studied it in Junior English, I love it now when I can learn from it's lesson. Tonight, this poem speaks to me again, and I would like to share it with you.

I'm sure you've heard it before, but don't let that stop you from reading it again. Take Frost's wisdom, and take the road not taken.

The Road Not Taken

by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Day 40 and 41: The Problem with the Marble

Catherine

So yesterday my internet wasn't working... so today I blog with double the effort. I'm feeling uncreative at the moment. It's a very sad thing for someone who's going to be majoring in art. The reason? I cannot for the life of me think of a good marble craft.

Let me explain. At work we are in the process of clearing out the sample room. Due to many samples being out of date and many venders being busy I throw a lot away. However, I didn't feel right tossing the marble samples. After all, there has to be some purpose I can put them to... right? I considered making some sort of device to hold pictures but they are too heavy to hang on the wall. I considered making a checkers board, but I don't have enough. I considered covering a table, but who wants to ruin a perfectly good table? Sad day for Catherine.

I admit that there is very little point to me telling you this except that I blog about what I think about, and right now I'm stumped. Problems are kind of like that. They can be all too consuming. Often times I see the trash as the enemy. The trash means that I could not find a solution to my problem of what to do with something. This is why my previous problem with throwing this away keeps manifesting itself in my messy room.  On the to do list for tomorrow: either find something to do with these samples or in the trash they go! Could I paint on them?? hmmmmmm

Day 39: Joni and Friends

So, the blogging job was set on kenz for another week as I went off the Joni and Friends. Quick summary:

Joni and Friends is a Christian, special needs, family camp where families with a child with a disability go to have fun. The STMs try their hardest to make it as easy as possible on the parents by either working with a camper with a disability or a sibling. Because it was my first year, I helped out with the siblings in Child 1,  but especially Noah. The experience was amazing for me. If anyone wants to go next year, just let me know and I'll definitely get you the info. :)
